Frederick “Fred” Davis (1877 – 1961) American designer who came to Mexico City in 1910 many years before William Spratling. Recognizing a keen interest in silver jewelry, he began to create his own designs and works. He managed the antiques and fine crafts department for Sandborns, a large retailer in Mexico City, for more than twenty 20 years.
He designed Mexican sterling silver jewelry inspired by pre-Columbian art and ancient symbols. He also developed a network from he bought directly. In creating his own works, he used native materials and blended contemporary American and European designs with indigenous motifs.
